Can you scan children?
No, we only scan adults of minimum 18 years of age.
Do I need a doctors referral or can I self refer for a private ultrasound scan?
Yes you can. Doctor's ultrasound examination request is not necessary. If you don't know which ultrasound examination is most suitable for you please contact us explaining your symptoms.
Why should I pay for a private ultrasound scan?
You will avoid the very long NHS waiting times which can be up to 6 weeks for a routine examination. You will have an unrushed service due to the extra time allocated per scan. You will have the choice to book an ultrasound scan in the evening or on a weekend.
Is ultrasound scanning safe?
Ultrasound scans are completely safe and that is the reason that they can be used on multiple occasions during pregnancy for example. The image is produced by high frequency sound waves that enter the body which then reflect off different tissues within the body and return to the transducer (probe). All these reflections are then processed, which in turn creates the ultrasound image.
Why do you use ultrasound gel?
The ultrasound gel is used in order to create maximum contact between the transducer and the patient's skin. Without the gel no image would be created.
Is the ultrasound gel safe?
The ultrasound gel is water based and therefore is completely safe. It also does not create allergic reactions.
What should i expect when I arrive for my appointment?
Upon arrival to Lucerne clinic we will greet you at the door. Please ring the door bell so that we are aware that you have arrived. If the scan room is free we will take you straight in for your ultrasound scan. If we are still with another patient you will be asked to take a seat in the waiting area.
How many people can come with me during my ultrasound scan?
You may have one other person with you in the scan room.
Can I have a chaperone in the room during my ultrasound scan?
A chaperone can be provided upon request therefore please let us know in advance if you require this. When performing gynaecological scans we sometimes might have to perform a transvaginal (internal) scan after discussion with the patient. We will ensure to have a female chaperone on site if any gynaecological scans are booked.
When and how do I get my results from my private ultrasound scan?
We will discuss the ultrasound scan findings directly after performing the ultrasound scan and also provide a written report before you leave the clinic.
What happens when my ultrasound scan shows something is wrong?
If an abnormality is detected on the ultrasound scan, the findings will be discussed with the client and the report provided will include the appropriate required follow up.
Will my results be confidential?
Information Governance is an utmost priority. All patient records and ultrasound images are always securely stored.
I’ve tried to book an ultrasound scan appointment online but it didn’t work, what can I do?
In the rare event that the online ultrasound booking system is down, please phone 0753 929 0816.
I would like to book with the Arabic/Greek/Armenian...speaker, how can I see when he is available?
If you require a particular Sonographer who speaks any of the languages provided at IUS, then please either email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone us 0753 929 0816 so that we can ensure that the appropriate Sonographer is available.
If you have any other questions, please contact us.
Ultrasound does not travel well in bowel or gas so you can not fully evaluate abdominal organs such as stomach and bowel or organs obscured by bowel.
It can also be hard to fully visualise internal anatomy of large patients as the sound has further to travel and therefore the returning echoes are weaker.

Diagnostic Medical ultrasound or medical sonography as otherwise known is a painless imaging technique utilising sound waves to produce internal images of the body.
It is called ultrasound as the sound frequency being used is at the region of 1 to 20MHz. The human ear cant can’t hear these frequencies.
The sound waves are produced by the transducer or the probe as most commonly known. As they travel through the body they bounce back to the transducer due to various sound transmissions differences in tissues. The returning echoes are picked up by the probe and a powerful computer analyses the echoes and creates the 2d image on the screen.
There are various kinds of ultrasound scans that can be performed and each looks at different organs of the body such as tendons, muscles, joints, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, uterus and ovaries to confirm or exclude possible pathology.
Unlike Ct and MRI, ultrasound does not use radiation and therefore is pregnancy friendly. It is also live and is ideal for musculo-skeletal exams to evaluate moving joints.
IUS London specialises in diagnostic private ultrasound scans to provide you with quick diagnosis and the much-needed reassurance about your health, within a convenient location. The cost of a private ultrasound scan shouldn’t be prohibited when it comes to someone’s wellbeing. This is why our prices are competitive and affordable with no compromise to the level of care. The price you see is the price you pay with no hidden extras. We have hundreds of happy clients including GP’s, consultants, radiologists and midwives to name a few. Some of our clients choose us when large, well established ultrasound scanning companies failed them in diagnostic accuracy and especially aftercare. We offer ultrasound scan appointments via our online booking system or on the phone. We do not charge a deposit or a cancellation fee as we care more about our clients and we respect their decision to decide what is best for them without concern about the ultrasound scan deposit they already paid.
Our London ultrasound scan clinic now offers emergency on-call ultrasound services.
We understand that health problems can arise any time of day and night. The NHS does not always compliment their physical examination with an emergency ultrasound scan due to availability of equipment and staff.
If you were to require an emergency ultrasound scan, whether it be late evening during weekends and Saturdays or all day Sunday then please call 07539 290816 in order to see our availability and arrange a convenient time. Please see our emergency London ultrasound scan page for more information.
