Not Sure Which Scan?

Start from the symptom, not the scan name

The commonest reason people call us is uncertainty about which examination answers their question. This is the short version — each links to a page explaining what that scan covers and what it cannot.

What you are experiencing Usually the right scan
Upper abdominal pain, pain after fatty food, abnormal liver blood tests Abdominal ultrasound
A lump in the neck, difficulty swallowing, abnormal thyroid blood tests Thyroid and neck ultrasound
Flank pain, urinary symptoms, suspected kidney stones Kidneys, ureters and bladder
A lump or swelling anywhere on the body Lumps and bumps ultrasound
A bulge in the groin or abdominal wall, worse on coughing Hernia ultrasound
Pelvic pain, heavy or irregular bleeding, ovarian or uterine concerns Pelvic ultrasound
Postmenopausal bleeding, or endometrial thickness follow-up Endometrial thickness scan
Testicular lump, swelling or discomfort Testicular ultrasound
Calf pain and swelling, suspected clot DVT assessment
Stroke risk assessment, or a bruit heard by your doctor Carotid artery scan
Joint, tendon or soft-tissue pain Musculoskeletal scans
Pregnancy — reassurance, dating, growth or wellbeing Pregnancy scans
A general check with no specific symptom Well woman or well man
Some symptoms need the NHS emergency pathway, not a booking

Severe sudden pain, chest pain, breathlessness, heavy bleeding, a rapidly swelling limb or neck, or pain with fever and confusion warrant 999 or A&E now rather than a scan appointment. The NHS runs same-day assessment for exactly these and it is excellent. If your GP or a specialist has asked for an urgent scan, tell us when you book and we will prioritise your appointment.

What You Get

What every booking includes

One fixed price

The fee shown at booking covers the examination, the interpretation and your written report with images. No hidden extras, no separate reporting charge.

An unhurried appointment

Thirty minutes for most scans, around an hour for the well-man and well-woman packages — time to scan properly and to answer your questions afterwards.

Answers before you leave

Your sonographer explains the findings during the scan, while you can still ask about them. No waiting days for a letter.

A report your GP can act on

Written in standard clinical terminology and emailed usually within two hours, so your GP or consultant can refer you on without repeating the imaging.

Booking FAQs

Questions about booking, answered

Do I need a GP referral or a prescription?
No. You can self-refer and book directly. We do recommend sharing your report with your GP afterwards so your care stays joined up, and every report is written with that in mind.
How soon can I be seen?
Same-week appointments are routine and same-day is often available. The diary shows genuine live availability — if a slot appears, it is bookable. We open weekday evenings until 8pm and Saturday mornings.
How much does it cost?
Fees start at £119 and every scan displays its fixed price before you commit. The full list is on our ultrasound scan prices page.
How do I pay, and is a deposit required?
A deposit is taken online to hold your slot, with the balance settled at the clinic. We accept all major debit and credit cards, cash, PayPal and bank transfer.
Can I use private health insurance?
It depends on your policy. Most UK insurers require a specialist referral, and because we do not require one, scans are often treated as self-pay health screening, which many policies exclude. Call your insurer with the scan details before booking to confirm.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your appointment. Inside 24 hours a 50 per cent charge applies. You can cancel via the link in your confirmation email, by email or by phone.
Can I choose which sonographer scans me?
Yes. The booking diary lets you search by team member as well as by scan, so you can check a specific clinician’s availability. You can read about them on our clinical team page.
When will I get my results?
Your sonographer explains the findings at the scan itself. The written report with representative images usually follows by email within two hours.
Do you offer 3D or 4D bonding scans?
No. We are a diagnostic clinic, and 3D and 4D bonding scans carry no diagnostic value, so we do not offer them. Every scan we perform has to earn its place clinically. Our pregnancy scans assess viability, dating, growth and wellbeing.
Do you offer the NHS 12-week combined screening or 20-week anomaly scan?
No. Those are part of the NHS screening pathway and are best done through it, so your results feed into your NHS maternity record. We can help with reassurance, growth and wellbeing scans alongside that pathway.
