Conditions Detected Through Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a first-line diagnostic tool used by NHS and private doctors to investigate symptoms across the body. At IUS London, our sonographers use diagnostic ultrasound to detect, monitor and assess a wide range of health conditions — from pregnancy complications and gynaecological disorders to vascular disease, abdominal pathology and musculoskeletal injuries.

Women's Health & Gynaecological Conditions

Pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound scans investigate symptoms such as pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, heavy periods, irregular cycles and post-menopausal bleeding. Our sonographers assess the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, endometrium and cervix. Conditions detected include ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), uterine fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, hydrosalpinx, ovarian torsion, adnexal masses and suspected ovarian cancer.

Breast ultrasound evaluates breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge and axillary lymph nodes. Breast ultrasound can detect breast cysts, fibroadenomas, breast abscesses and solid masses requiring further investigation.

Fertility ultrasound includes follicular tracking scans, antral follicle count, assessment of ovarian reserve, uterine cavity evaluation and monitoring during IVF treatment cycles and ovulation induction.
