Career and training
Tareq obtained his BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging from the University of Hertfordshire in 2003 and began his career at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, where he trained in ultrasound and completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound at South Bank University in 2006. Four further years at the Trust consolidated his experience across obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal, testicular and vascular scanning.
A year at Northwick Park Hospital — one of the country’s busiest maternity units — deepened his obstetric experience, before eight years at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, based at St Mary’s Hospital, from 2012 to 2020.
He now serves as Ultrasound Modality Lead at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust alongside his work at IUS London. That is a departmental leadership role — setting protocols, standards and quality assurance for an entire NHS ultrasound service — and it is the experience that shapes how scanning is done at this clinic.
