The Team of our Private ultrasound scan clinic in London

(English, Arabic, Armenian, French and Spanish speaker)
Bsc (Hon) Diagnostic Radiography, Pg (Dip) Medical Ultrasound

I obtained my Bachelors degree in Radiography from the University of Hertfordshire in 2003 after which I was employed at the East and North Herts NHS Trust. I commenced my Ultrasound training the following year and obtained my post graduate Diploma in summer of 2006 from South Bank University. The following 4 years at the East and North Herts Trust were invaluable for me to consolidate my ultrasound experience. During those years I became proficient at obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal, testicular and vascular ultrasound.
After the East and North Herts Trust,  I spent one year working at Northwick Park Hospital which provided me with valuable further experience in obstetric ultrasound as they have a very  busy maternity unit.
From December 2012 until this date I have been employed at Imperial College NHS Trust (St Mary's hospital). These years have hugely increased my experience in other fields of ultrasound such as musculo-skeletal ultrasound, lumps & bumps, hernias and 3D assessment of the uterus for patients with a history of recurrent miscarriages. Two years ago I was promoted to ultrasound superintendant which involves managing the ultrasound department of a large London hospital which performs over 4000 ultrasound examinations per year.

(English and Greek speaker)
BSc (Hons) Radiography (Imaging), Pg (Cert) Medical Ultrasound (General Imaging)
I started studying Radiography in Greece but quickly decided to expand my knowledge and came to study in the UK where I obtained my Bachelors degree in 1999 from South Bank University.
Following my graduation, I worked for 5 years in Crawley hospital (part of Surrey and Sussex NHS trust) whilst studying and training for my Pg (Dip) in Medical Ultrasound (General Imaging) which I obtained in 2004.
Since then I have worked in both the NHS and private sector as I felt it was the best way of acquiring a broad and solid experience in ultrasound. I have extensive knowledge in abdominal, gynaecological, testicular, thyroid and neck and soft tissue lump scans.
I am currently working at Imperial College NHS Trust (St Mary's hospital) where I scan patients with various health complaints and also assist with the training of sonographers and junior radiologists.

What are the benefits and risks of the ultrasound examinations?

What are the limitations of Ultrasound Imaging?

Ultrasound does not travel well in bowel or gas so you can not fully evaluate abdominal organs such as stomach and bowel or organs obscured by bowel.

It can also be hard to fully visualise internal anatomy of large patients as the sound has further to travel and therefore the returning echoes are weaker.

About Ultrasound

Diagnostic Medical ultrasound or medical sonography as otherwise known is a painless imaging technique utilising sound waves to produce internal images of the body.
It is called ultrasound as the sound frequency being used is at the region of 1 to 20MHz. The human ear cant can’t hear these frequencies.
The sound waves are produced by the transducer or the probe as most commonly known. As they travel through the body they bounce back to the transducer due to various sound transmissions differences in tissues. The returning echoes are picked up by the probe and a powerful computer analyses the echoes and creates the 2d image on the screen.
There are various kinds of ultrasound scans that can be performed and each looks at different organs of the body such as tendons, muscles, joints, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, uterus and ovaries to confirm or exclude possible pathology.
Unlike Ct and MRI, ultrasound does not use radiation and therefore is pregnancy friendly. It is also live and is ideal for musculo-skeletal exams to evaluate moving joints.

Emergency London Ultrasound Scan Service

Our London ultrasound scan clinic now offers emergency on-call ultrasound services.
We understand that health problems can arise any time of day and night. The NHS does not always compliment their physical examination with an emergency ultrasound scan due to availability of equipment and staff.
If you were to require an emergency ultrasound scan, whether it be late evening during weekends and Saturdays or all day Sunday then please call 07539 290816 in order to see our availability and arrange a convenient time. Please see our emergency London ultrasound scan page for more information.
