Follow-Up Care After Your Scan

Every scan ends in one of three places: all clear, keep an eye on it, or get it seen. Here is what each pathway means, who does what, and why none of them should leave you in limbo.

The Three Pathways

Normal, monitor or refer — what your result means in practice

NormalThe examination answered the question and found nothing needing action. Your report says so plainly — and it is worth keeping. A documented normal baseline is quietly valuable, because any future scan can then be compared against your own anatomy rather than a population average.

MonitorSomething exists but does not need treating — a simple cyst, a small fibroid, a stable nodule. Your report states what was seen, why it is considered low concern, and the evidence-based interval for rechecking. Three months, six, twelve — whatever the finding warrants, stated explicitly. Never a vague “keep an eye on it”. Comparison against your previous images, ideally by the same sonographer, is the entire point of the recheck.

ReferThe finding needs a clinician’s input — a specialist opinion, further imaging such as MRI or CT, or treatment. Your report names the recommended specialty and states the urgency honestly, written so your GP can make the referral without re-investigating. If a finding is urgent we do not leave it to the report: you are told at the scan, and we call to make sure the next step is moving.

What follow-up at a scanning clinic is — and is not

We are a diagnostic clinic. We find answers, explain them, document them and route them. We do not prescribe, operate, or replace your GP.

Good follow-up from us means you leave with three things: an honest explanation, a report engineered for the next clinician, and a stated next step with a timeframe attached to it.

What we will not do is leave a finding hanging in medical vagueness. If we recommend a recheck, you will know exactly when and why. If we recommend a referral, you will know exactly to whom and how urgently.
